 What Pop-up Blockers Do

Pop-up blockers stop websites from automatically opening small browser windows (called pop-ups) without your consent. These pop-ups might contain:

  • Advertisements

  • Surveys or sign-up forms

  • Notifications or chat boxes

  • Login prompts or important site features

Why You Should Turn Pop-up Blockers On

Turning them on helps:

  • Reduce distractions: Blocks annoying or spammy ads.

  • Improve security: Prevents malicious pop-ups that could contain phishing links or harmful downloads.

  • Improve browser performance: Fewer unnecessary windows means smoother browsing.

Most browsers keep pop-up blocking enabled by default for safety and convenience.

Why You Might Turn Pop-up Blockers Off

Sometimes, legitimate websites use pop-ups for necessary functions, such as:

  • Online learning platforms showing quizzes, certificates, or resource materials.

  • Banking sites that open secure login or transaction windows.

  • Customer portals or support chats that open as pop-ups.

If your pop-up blocker is on, these windows might not appear, making the site seem like it’s not working correctly.

In those cases, you can temporarily allow pop-ups or add the site to your browser’s “allowed list.”

Turn ON pop-up blockers for everyday browsing to stay safe and avoid unwanted interruptions.

Turn OFF (or allow pop-ups) when using trusted websites that rely on pop-ups for essential features or functions.
